Adam Morgan is a driver in the BTCC in 2014, driving for his father's team WIX Racing.[2] Morgan became the first driver since the 1980s to use a Mercedes-Benz in a meeting in the BTCC, using an A-Class to compete in the first round of 2014.[1]
Current Season[]
Morgan is currently competing in the 2014 season of the BTCC, using (as mentioned above) a Mercedes A-Class. A best finish of seventh at the opening round at Brands Hatch Indy saw Morgan open the 2014 season with a good haul of points.[2]
Background[]
Born in Blackburn, Morgan began his motorsport career aged eight, beginning in Cadet Karts in 1996.[3] This continued until 2006, when Morgan entered the National Historic Rally Championship, ultimately finishing second in his class.[3] This was followed by a season in Ma5da Championship the following year, before Morgan began competing in the Ginetta Championships.[3] From 2009 until 2011, Morgan began competing in the Ginetta G50 Championship, ultimately taking the title in 2011, providing the basis for his entry into the BTCC.[3]
BTCC History[]
Speedworks Motorsport took on Morgan in 2012, funded by Ginetta (the prize for winning the Ginetta GT Supercup).[3] A troubled start to the season (in which he only finished four races before the summer break) saw Morgan finish with 50 points, granting him ninteeth in the championship.[3]
Family Backing[]
For Morgan to continue in the BTCC in 2013, he father, owner of Ciceley Racing entered the BTCC for the first time (having supported Morgan in the Ginetta GT Supercup), buying a Toyota Avensis from Dynojet Racing from season before.[3] The highlight of the season saw Morgan clinch third at the Rockingham meeting, with Morgan becoming a familiar face in the top ten throughout the year.[3]
Morgan remained with his father's team (now named WIX Racing after their sponsor), running a Mercedes A-Class.[1]
