AmD Essex are an entrant in the British Touring Car Championship, currently running under the name of AmD Tuning.com.[2]

Current SeasonEdit

AmD are currently entering an ex-Motorbase Ford Focus in the 2014 championship, with Dave Newsham as their only driver.[1] The season will be the first that AmD have run an NGTC machine, as the regulations demand.[1]

HistoryEdit

AmD Essex was originally founded as a business in 1987 tuning road cars, before AmD began sponsoring cars in the Sportmaxx Cup in 2008 (with their team winnig the Cup in 2009), before founding their own team, with Shaun Hollamby at the helm.[2] Hollamby drove a VW Golf Mk5 in the 2010 season, competing in all of the year's races.[2] Although he failed to score any points, the team vowed to continue in the championship.[2]

2011 saw AmD obtain the services of Tom Onslow-Cole, who took the team's first points with seventh at Donington Park.[2] However, Onslow-Cole left the team to rejoin Team Aon after the fourth meeting, meaning Hollamby had to drive the Golf at round five.[2] After the summer break, Martin Byford drove the car, although neither he, nor Hollamby, could improve on Onslow-Cole's tally.[2] 2012 saw Ollie Jackson have the team's best season, as he finished 18th in the final standings, a frequent point scorer, although he left the team at the end of the season.[2]

The Golf would be rebuilt over the winter, with the well known James Kaye coming in to drive the car, while the team also announced that they would build an NGTC Vauxhall Vectra in time for the second half of the year.[3] As the Golf was a Super 2000 car, the team competed for the Jack Sears Trophy, with Kaye frequently battling with the Team Wood Racing car in the JST battle.[3] Kaye missed the fourth round, with Aaron Mason standing in, before returning at the fifth and sixth rounds.[3] The team obtained a Honda Civic over the summer, when the NGTC Vectra project failed to get a spot on the grid.[3] The Civic was used once, with Kaye leaving after the sixth round, leaving the Golf and Hollamby to get a run out at the final meeting.[3]

Motorbase LeftoversEdit

AmD bought the first Ford Focus Mk III built by Motorbase Performance (which Mat Jackson had used during the second half of 2013) in the winter, before announcing Dave Newsham as their driver for the 2014 season.[1] The team had one of its most successful seasons to date, ending the season in tenth place overall, as well as Newsham taking the Jack Sears Trophy for the team at the final round of the season.[4]

The Focus that had served Newsham so well in 2014 was to be retained in 2015, although it was announced later that 2014 Renault Clio Cup Champion Mike Bushell would be joining the team.[5]

HonoursEdit

AmD Essex had their first triumph in 2014, when Dave Newsham claimed the Jack Sears Trophy in the final race of the season at Brands Hatch.
