Chris McLaren was a former British Saloon Car Championship driver and class champion, competing between 1962 and 1965. McLaren achieved a best championship position of fourth in 1964 standings, also taking that season's Class C championship.
McLaren's career history before he entered the BSCC is largely unknown. McLaren did have at least one race in sports cars during 1962 (a few weeks before his BSCC debut), although his other adventures in motorsport are difficult to find.
McLaren's first race in the BSCC was in 1962, driving an Equipe Rogue prepared Mercedes-Benz 220 SEb at the final round of the season. The only entrant in his class, McLaren took (unsurprisingly) his first victory, although the competitiveness of his machine was questioned, finishing far behind the less powerful cars in Class A and B.
For 1963, McLaren obtained the sponsorship of Park Garages Ltd. (the Watford based branch of the firm) and bought himself a Jaguar Mk II to compete with. As part of the swarm of Jaguars that struggled against the comparatively huge Ford Galaxies that led the field that season, McLaren's chances of winning in his class were slim, achieving a best finish of second that year. Park Garages continued to sponsor McLaren the following year, where the Jaguars were given their own class. Four class wins, often as the only entrant in the class, was enough for McLaren to beat John Sparrow in the only other Jag, to the Class C championship.
