Jack Brabham was a British Saloon Car Championship driver and race winner, having won five races for Alan Brown Racing between 1963 and 1966.

Background[]

Better known for his Formula One exploits, Brabham was already a double world champion before he entered his first race in the BSCC in 1963.[1] Before he won the 1959 and 1960 world championships, Brabham had competed in both Australia and the UK in numerous club events, as well as sports cars.[1] Having entered his first Grand Prix in 1955, Brabham had a wide range of experience before he was asked to race for Alan Brown Racing in 1963, and continued to race in Formula One during and beyond his BSCC career.[1]

BTCC History[]

Alan Brown Racing asked Brabham to drive for them at the final round of the 1963 season.[2] Driving a Ford Galaxie around Snetterton, Brabham demonstrated his talent, taking victory on his debut.[2] Alan Brown then asked Brabham to drive for them at the first two rounds of 1964, with Brabham once again showing his talent, taking victory at the first race (although a pre-race issue prevented him from starting the second round of the year).[3] Brabham also attended the final meeting of 1964, taking victory for the third time in only his fourth race.[3]

Brabham would not attend another BSCC race meeting until the sixth round of 1965, once again driving for Alan Brown Racing.[4] A third place finish resulted, with Brabham using one of the team's new Ford Mustangs, before he took victory at the following race at Brands Hatch.[4] Brabham looked to have also taken victory at Oulton Park in the final race of the year, but was disqualified in post-race scrutineering.[4] Brabham returned for the first four races of 1966, taking his final victory at the year's opening race.[5] He would take the Alan Brown Mustang to two further podiums before he left the BSCC for the final time, focusing on building his own Formula One team, Motor Racing Developments.[5][1]
