John Sparrow is a former British Saloon Car Championship driver, who raced between 1961 and 1964.
Background[]
Sparrow competed in very few series before he joined hte BSCC, although he would gain experience between his first race and his second. Most of Sparrow's driving (during and after his BSCC career) came from Sports Cars, with Sparrow competing at high profile events such as the Six Hour Race at Brands Hatch (in 1963) and the European Touring Car Championship.[1]
BTCC History[]
Sparrow's first race came in 1961, driving anAuto Union 1000S at Silverstone, although a failure before the race prevented him from starting.[2] Sparrow returned in 1963, using one of the aging Jaguar Mk IIs at three meetings.[3] A best finish of fifth resulted from the year, with Sparrow failing to score any points.[3]
Sparrow then competed in the BSCC for almost a full year, using the same Jaguar Mk II which he had driven the year before.[4] One of only two drivers using the Jaguar (the other being Chris McLaren) and running in a separate class, Sparrow claimed his first class win at the opening round, tasting success once more at Aintree.[4] Sparrow would, however, be second best to McLaren, finishing runner up in Class C before leaving the championship.[4]
